Toll-Free Number for Daily Air Quality Information

Toll-Free Number for Daily Air Quality Information

Dial 1-866-DAILY AIR.

Do you know how clean the air you're breathing is today?  The American Lung Association in Wisconsin Clean Air Choice program now makes it possible for anyone in Wisconsin to check the daily air quality by dialing the state-wide, toll-free hotline 1-866-DAILY AIR (1-866-324-5924).

By calling the Air Quality Hotline, information about ozone and particle pollution is available 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year for any county within the state of Wisconsin.

After dialing 1-866-DAILY AIR, callers are prompted with instructions on how to check the air quality of a specific county.  Information is based on the Air Quality Index (AQI) and includes up to date air quality range, forecast and health effects, as well as the AQI value of the previous day.

Ozone, the main ingredient of smog, presents a serious air quality problem in many parts of the United States.  Even at low levels, ozone can cause health effects.  Fine particles are easily inhaled deeply into the lungs where they can be absorbed into the bloodstream or remain embedded for long periods of time.    It is especially harmful to those with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

The air monitoring data was developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in order to understand the health effects of air pollution and to warn those who may be at an increased risk.  Health effects include wheezing, coughing, respiratory irritation and exposure may trigger asthma attacks.  Particle pollution also has been linked to heart attacks.

The hotline also directs callers to the Clean Air Choice website (www.cleanairchoice.org) where they can learn more about E85, a cleaner burning fuel, and find station and vehicle information.
