Sign-Up Deadline for UW Farm and Industry Short Course Is Oct. 1

Orientation and registration planned Oct. 18.

Prospective students have until Oct. 1 to apply for the 2007-2008 Farm and Industry Short Course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Orientation and registration will be held Oct.18. The first six-week session begins Nov. 12, the second session begins Jan. 22, and the final session starts Feb. 11, ending with graduation March 29. There will also be two one-week interim sessions: Jan. 7–11 and Jan. 14–18.

Students can choose from more than 40 agricultural and horticultural courses in specialties such as dairy farm management, beef and swine management, farm mechanics, farm service and supply, and crops and soils. There is also a new green industry specialty area offering courses in production landscape construction and greenhouse management.

Students can also get on-the-job experience through internships.

Dormitory accommodations are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. CALS awards nearly $80,000 in short course scholarships, and many local businesses in many communities also provide financial aid.

Approximately 125 students enroll annually in the short course program.
