Agricultural engineers, biologists, agricultural technologists and veterinarians. These are just some of the career plans for the 2011 crop of Agricultural Education Scholarship winners. This year the Foremost Farms USA Charitable Foundation awarded $20,000 in scholarships to the children of dairy producer member-owners. Each winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship. The recipients are broken out into graduating high school seniors and college students. Here are the winners:
High School Winners
Kalli Berning is the daughter of member-owners Tony and Connie Berning, Galena, Ill. Kalli is a graduating senior at Galena High School. She will be a freshman next fall at North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., and plans to study agricultural engineering. She expects to graduate in 2015. Kalli is an Illinois State Scholar and participated in the WYSE Team State Competition.
Brent Payne is the son of member-owners Daryl and Tammy Payne, Sullivan, Wis. Brent is a graduating senior at Jefferson High School, Jefferson, Wis., and plans to study dairy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He plans to graduate in 2013. He is on the high honor roll and attended the National FFA Convention last fall. Brent also participated in the State Dairy Judging Competition.
Jada Powlen is the daughter of member-owners J. Phillip and Darla Powlen, Kewanna, Ind. Jada is a graduating senior at Caston High School, Fulton, Ind., and plans to study horticultural landscape and design this fall at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. She plans to graduate in 2015. Jada earned Academic All State and Academic All Conference-Basketball honors. She is a State FFA Fruit Production Proficiency Winner, earned first place in dairy judging and was student body president, Key Club president and participated in golf and cheerleading.
Kelly Parrell is the daughter of member-owners Wayne and Audrey Parrell, Black Earth, Wis. Kelly is a graduating senior at Wisconsin Heights High School, Mazomanie, Wis., and plans to study international agriculture next fall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She plans to graduate in 2015. She has participated in volleyball, soccer, band, choir, colorguard, National Honor Society, Student Council and is a WIAA Student Athlete Nominee. She has participated in several musicals and is an Academic Excellence Scholar.
Ryan Pralle is the son of Scott Pralle and Pam Selz-Pralle, Humbird, Wis. Ryan is a graduating senior at Osseo-Fairchild High School and plans to study dairy science and genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He plans to graduate in 2015. Ryan has been very active in 4-H and FFA serving multiple years as president and vice president of his local club(s). He is a member of the Academic Quiz Bowl Team, Student Council, captain of the USA Technical Team, and attended the FBLA State Convention. Ryan has earned numerous awards in FFA, and is an Academic Achievement letter winner. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Jazz Band, Forensics, Solo and Ensemble and earned the President's Award for Citizenship and Scholastic Achievement. Ryan is also very active in his church and has been in several community theatre productions. He also participated in Wisconsin Badger Boys State.
Joshua Simon is the son of member-owners Thomas and Shirley Simon, Farley, Iowa. Joshua is a graduating senior at Western Dubuque High School, Epworth, Iowa, and plans to major in agricultural systems technology this fall at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. He plans to graduate in 2015. Joshua participated in soccer and youth bowling. He is a member of the National Honor Society, FFA and earned an Academic Award and sixth place in the National Dairy Judging Team competition. He also attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference and received first place in computer problem-solving.
Tyrel Danielson is the son of member-owners Doug and Annie Danielson, Cadott, Wis. Tyrel is a graduating senior at Cadott High School. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, River Falls, Wis., next fall to study agricultural engineering. He plans to graduate in 2015. Tyrel participated in the Drama Club spring play, Chess Club, Mathletes competition, Skills USA, National Honor Society, FFA and received the High Honor Roll Award.
Kyle Clay is the son of member-owners Cynthia and Jeffrey Clay, Shelbyville, Ind. Kyle will be a sophomore at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., studying animal science and a pre-veterinary curriculum. He expects to graduate in 2014. Kyle is on the dean's list and is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, International Student Volunteers and the Indiana Junior Holstein Association. He works on the family dairy farm.
Rebecca Dahlke is the daughter of member-owners Steven and Ruthann Dahlke, Marathon, Wis. Rebecca will be a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County, Wausau, Wis., studying biology and agriculture education and expects to graduate in 2015. She will receive a State FFA degree in June and is on the dean's list with high honors. Rebecca is a tutor and is involved in peer zoology. She is interested in studying plant and animal physiologies and anatomies and is a 2011-2012 UWMC Student Ambassador.
Greggory Leslie is the son of member-owners Al and Dawn Leslie, Decker, Mich. Greggory will be a junior next fall at Baker College of Owosso, Owosso, Mich., and is studying diesel service technology. He has been on the dean's list for the last four quarters and expects to graduate in 2012.
